Kyiv National I. K. Karpenko-Karyi University of Theatre, Cinema and Television
The Kyiv National I. K. KARPENKO-KARYI University of Theatre, Cinema and Television is one of the oldest of higher educational establishments in the art education, which in September 2004 celebrated its 100th Anniversary.
Our history begins in 1904 from the Musical and Drama School of Mykola LYSENKO, who was the great Ukrainian composer and one of the founders of the Ukrainian classical theatre. In September 1918 the M. LYSENKO Musical and Drama School was transformed to the M. LYSENKO Musical and Drama Institute.
In 1934, in the result of reorganization of the institute, on the basis of the drama faculty was created the Kyiv State Theatre Institute. In 1945, to commemorate the 100th Anniversary of the famous Ukrainian dramatist and actor Ivan TOBILEVYCH (KARPENKO-KARY), the Institute received its present name. In 1961 the Cinema Faculty was established on the base of the Institute, in 1975 it started the training of the specialists in television (since 2005 the Cinema Faculty was developed into the Institute of the Screen Arts, which now is an essential part of the University). Since 1966 and till present time, the University welcomes international students from countries all over the world. On the 23rd April 2003, the Kyiv State I. K. KARPENKO-KARY Theatre Arts Institute was restructured into the Kyiv State I. K. KARPENKO-KARY Theatre, Cinema and Television University. In 2004, by the Decree of the President of Ukraine, the University was granted the status of the National University, due to University’s contribution into the development of the national education and science. The scientific and teaching staff of the University includes: 4 academicians and 3 corresponding members of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine; 11 doctors of sciences, 7 professors, 17 PhDs, 29 associate professors; Honoured Arts Workers of Ukraine and others. Generally, training process is delivered by around 640 members of staff. The total amount of students, who study 23 educational programs, is close to 1,500. The specificity of training at the University is the orientation on formation of a unique creative personality. Besides the full-time, the University also provides a correspondence and part-time forms of studying in certain programs.
The Kyiv National I. K. Karpenko-Kary Theatre, Cinema and Television University is the leading higher educational establishments with the 4th accreditation level. The University awards bachelor's and master's degrees. There students are trained in two fields of study:

The University has its own Educational Centre, which operates on the basis of professional theatre. The mission of the specialized cinema and television complex is to provide services for the students of the of Institute of Screen Arts, stand the educational challengers. The University has a great number of very famous teachers and graduates, among them there are 21 Folk Artists of Ukraine, 21 Honoured Artists of Ukraine, 30 Honoured Art Workers of Ukraine,15 Honoured Culture Workers of Ukraine, as well as some laureates of the State Prize, and laureates of the National T. Shevchenko Prize. The mission of the specialized cinema and television complex is to provide services for the students of the of Institute of Screen Arts, stand the educational challengers. The University has a great number of very famous teachers and graduates, among them there are 140 People's Artist of Ukraine, 18 laureates of the State Prize, 40 laureates of the National T. Shevchenko Prize.
